The most important risk factor for most of sports injuries is a previous injury. If you are returning to you sport after the rehabilitation from a sport injury, be sure that you have done everything contemporary science and practice can offer you to maximally reduce the risk of an injury recurrence.
It is well known that athletes, after they have sustained an injury, strive to return to their training programmes and competition as soon as possible. On the other hand, every athlete is afraid that the same or a similar injury may happen again. The fear is justified since the injury recurrence rate after any acute traumatic sports injury is fairly high, varying between 10% and 35%. It refers especially to muscle injuries (calf or hamstrings injuries) as well as to knee ligament injuries (anterior cruciate ligament or medial collateral ligament injuries) and ankle injuries (anterior talofibular ligament injuries).
How can one find a balance between a fast return to sport and maximally reduced risk of injury recurrence? There is no simple answer to that question; it depends on many factors like an athlete’s age and gender, previous injuries, playing position, etc. The system of objective, unbiased criteria for the factors that have been recognised as risky for injury recurrence facilitates the process of rational decision-making.
Our team of experts apply the most recent scientific achievements and multidisciplinary approach, which include anatomical, neuro-muscular, psychological, and sport-specific criteria to decide on the patient’s return to sport.
The anatomical factors include the injured tissue healing rate that is determined via an imaging examination. Neuro-muscular factors imply joint mobility, muscular strength, power and endurance, balance and neuro-muscular control of risky movements, which are all determined by the kinesiological and biomechanical diagnostics.
The following typical tests are regularly used in the evaluation of neuro-muscular risk factors:
The psychological factors refer to an athlete’s self-perception of his/her readiness to return to sport. It is determined by means of validated questionnaires. Finally, sport-specific factors are determined by tests of specific physical condition (kinesiological diagnostics) and by the insight into which level of the sport-specific load (exertion) has been achieved in sports training (e.g. GPS technology).
The process commences with a clinical check-up and the interpretation of an imaging examination, followed by the client’s filling in the questionnaire and then the kinesiological and biomechanical diagnostics are executed. Based on the entirety of the collected and analysed data, a recommendation is issued about the athlete’s readiness to return to sport. There are four possible recommendations:
In the case of severe injuries that require several months of recovery, apart from the final determination whether the criteria for a return to sport have been met, periodical check-ups and tests of appropriate criteria are executed to stay in control of effectiveness and efficiency of the rehabilitation process.
For the last two years, I have been successfully working with Professor Marković on regeneration, fitness and recovery from injuries and pain.
Working with Professor Goran Marković was exceptional - fast, high quality and efficient. We can be proud to have such an expert at our side.
Professor Marković's knowledge and skill have greatly helped me to come back into the field as soon as possible after an injury or painful condition and in good physical state.
Motus Melior has helped me numerous times in my career, both in the rehabilitation of injuries from which I came back even stronger, as well as in my conditional plan and nutrition and regeneration.
Thanks to the Motus Melior team, a back injury that jeopardized my career is behind me, and at the same time I improved the function of my hips and torso.
Unfortunately, injuries are an integral part of professional sports. That is why it is important to have an expert team on your side, such as Professor Marković's. The comfortable and beautiful atmosphere of Motus Melior, with its professional and expert staff, is a winning combination for a quick recovery.
I have been working with the Motus Melior Center and Professor Marković for 3 years. I am extremely pleased with the collaboration so far as they have helped me a lot in recovering from my injuries and improving my fitness. I look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.
On my manager's recommendation, two years ago I started working with Professor Marković and the Motus Melior Center in the field of injury prevention and treatment and conditioning. So far, I am extremely pleased with the cooperation. I recommend them fully.
Professor Marković is a person I place my trust in. I have been collaborating with the professor and the Motus Melior team for over 6 years, and this collaboration is gaining new dimensions every year. This has greatly contributed to my professional sports development.
I have been working with Professor Marković and the Motus Melior team for 5 years and it is with their help that I am where I am today.
